Coaches, when you are in for example a red or blue formation and want to run bucksweep, do you teach your wingbacks to make a square cut of the wb and te down block? If so what coaching points are there for the cut, I have heard guys like to sink hips and make square cut and go, any help would be great.

Coach: For the first few days when we are installing Bk. Swp., we put a bag in his path so that when he got to the spot he is supposed to cut up into the hole, he would have to stop or trip over the bag.
Coach Tom Herman has some video's from his summer camps that do a great job of showing their position work with the kids. Some great looks at how they drill the RB's at their camp. Contact Tom.. he'll tell you how to get the video's.

you want to teach your back to make his 90 degree sweep cut as tight to the down block of the wing as possible.stay tight to his "power block[the block in at the hole as possible]". by staying tight to this he can get through a small hole if the outside lb really squeezes bfore the playside guard can expand the hole. tom herman has the teaching of the sweep cut and details of the play on his camp tapes.
