Thread: Unbalanced

    Default Unbalanced

We are going to be playing a stack team in the playoffs in a few weeks. I am looking to run some unbalanced looks against them. I am looking at two different formations. Thoughts

    ----------Y---G---C---G---T---T---X
    -----Z------------QB

    ------------------FB--------H

or the old double slot with X over

    -------------T---G---C---G---T-----------Y----------X
    ---------H-----------QB-----------Z

    ----------------------FB

What are some things you have done. We are very basic Wing-T and will not add schemes just to tinker. We run the 20's and 80's out of 900 and Red.

    Thanks

Something I picked up at a clinich few years back. it was a whole offense in it self, but you could def run 20/80 out of it

    --------t--g--c--g--t--y--x
    --------------q-------------w
    ------------------------------
    --------r-----f------------

its not reinvienting the wheel or anything, but it does add some conflict.
flip the x and tackle/move the y out and you have a 2 recievers still, and alot of blockers on 1 side.

    I run this:

    .............ST..SG..C..TG..TT..TT..TE
    ..........SL...........Q.......................FL
    ........................FB

It isn't for passing. We flip flop our line, so I don't like taking my split tackle and putting him on the tight side where he has to learn a new assignment. When I run this, I put in the second team tight tackle outside the starting tight tackle, but inside the tight end. We'll run Down to the TE, Belly to the weak side, FB Trap, and Tackle Trap. I just have the extra tight tackle follow his same rules as he normally would, so there is no new learning. I keep the split tackle in his normal spot, as well.

This has helped us spread out the defensive front, but not learn anything new. If they don't shift to the unbalanced formation, we have a huge hole for Down. If they do, we just follow our blocking rules.

I realize that this isn't exactly what you drew up, but still might be helpful. It has helped us.

    Good luck in your playoffs!

    Default We also flip flop

We also flip flop our lineman. That is a good idea using the backup for the unbalanced. We could do the same. As for the playoffs thank you. We lost in the title game last year 10-7, so we are itching to get back and win it.

This has been one of our favorite formations all year. Jet and Rocket to start, if they get over shifted buck sweep either way and just keep working inside - Belly, trap etc...

Great for Half back Pass to the X as well if you need something. Again I got this formation from someone on this board and really like it.

Has been good for us. Buck sweeps, traps, bootlegs, down, belly
We change no ones assignments. We just get people out of position to force. We get 9's instead of 7's, and people won't stack against this look, generally. We also do the opposite:

    ....Y......................X......T...G...C...G... T
    ................................H........... Q.........W

    ..............................................F

    and run the same plays

Spoofhound, you motivated me to run counter xx this season. We run that out of the top formation as well.

    Default Thanks

The Counter XX and Sally are the only counters we run. It is a great play. As for your top formation, we run that a lot already, we just signal X over. However, that rarely causes a team to break their stack. It does usually pull a defender out of the box though for Sweep and Rocket. Teams are picking up on that now though and roll their safety down.

We use what I call Right/Left (Tackles Right/Left) all the time
    .............LT...LG...C...RG...RT...TE........... ........WR
    .........LH............QB......................RH
    .........................FB......................
And run a full compliement of our offense from it.
We also run what I call ZERO RIGHT / ZERO LEFT and run 80 series
from this formation more than anything else

    .........TE.....LG.....C.....RG.....RT.....LT..... TE
    .........................QB....................... .......
    .........LH.............FB..............RH
I sure hope the diagrams come out right!
    Hope this helps!
