    Default New wrinkles

With Playoffs starting this week we are always looking for new wrinkles or a trick play or two. What are some of yalls favorite plays and/or Wing T formations. Trick or gimmick plays?

    Thanks

Have you messed with the Truck (reverse) play?? Killer!!!

Depending on how much Waggle you throw there are some interesting tags that you can add to it to give the defense something they haven't seen before.

We run waggle and waggle throwback. What are some of the tags you use coach?

Here are the tags we ran off of Waggle

    1. Solid - QB Pull up and throw the Backside Post (great when the FS wants to jump the drag/get over the SE's route)
    2. Backside - BS WB runs a Post Corner. QB Pulls up and throws the Post Corner (good when the FS is really sitting on the post and your want a shot play)
    3. HB Wheel - After faking the Bucksweep the HB settles and then runs a wheel out of the backfield

Truck is a faster reverse than X Reverse and... it's set up with the Jet Sweep fake!

Here are the rules for Truck (Jet Reverse) D gap counter to Jet Sweep SE from Red Formation:
    TE:Gap-Down-Backer
    RT:Gap-Down-Backer
RG:Pull-Log 1st outside TE down block
    OC:Reach-Area-Away
LG:Pull-Allow FB to pass. Read block of RG. Lead
    LT:Shutoff
    SE:Crossfield. Block back @hole.
    QB:Reverse pivot 18" over mid-line. Step back @45 w/depth. Outside HO to
LH. Boot away. Snap ball a tad later when RH(Jet Back) is @PSG.
RH:Fake Jet Sweep left. Dip inside shoulder. Protect backside.
LH:BC. Drop step @45 w/depth at least 3 yds. Follow LG.
FB:1st step crossover @45 for hip of RG. Block 1st LB playside or 1st to show. Usually the Corner or PSLB.

In essence the TE/PST are Bucksweep rules. The OC and 2 guards are waggle rules. We used to always put the FB on the PSLB as he would on waggle but there usually was too much congestion and he would bounce it outside and block the corner and the BSG would take the LB. Should the PSLB plug the FB would take him as on waggle and the BSG has the corner.
You want to run the play when they are over pursuing to the Jet especially the secondary.

If you are a Jet team and run Jet XX I would add Jet XX pass...HB to HB lateral back to the QB. Jet XX back to the TE flank with the playside blocking XX and no puller. The 1st BC after making the HO runs a wheel 5 yds from the sideline and the SE runs crossfield. If they stay Cover 2 he goes up the pipe between the safeties. If they react to the XX and come downhill he stays over the top on the diagonal for the flag. We used to run this off Counter XX but only ran it off Jet XX my last 20 years. If we ran it to the SE flank the SE would run a V cut to the flag. This was at least 1-2 TD's a year. We ran it twice in 1 game for TD's hitting the back the 1st time and the SE the second time. You want to run it when the safeties are sitting on the XX which they would at times on us because we ran it 4-6 times a game.

As a trick play I'd also have Double Pass. Red formation...motion to trips to the SE. The motion back is the personal protector for the SE who's throwing the pass. The SE takes a drop step, then lateral crossover with depth to get behind the QB. The slot goes like he's going to block the corner as he would on our SE screen and goes vertical and is the receiver. 1 step drop by the QB. You could drag the TE as an outlet.

Feel free to email me directly for more ideas.
