Thread: Defeating the 3-5-3?

  1. Default Defeating the 3-5-3?

We play a ton of 3-5-3 teams. We are looking at going to a lot of jet sweep, rocket, and 90 option to attack this. What do you guys think??

We've had a lot of success running AT that "Spur" (OLB). 31/39 Power Sweep with FB leading HB on the Spur. Then... Power Sweep Keep Pass. Run FB at Spur and slip past him into the flat. QB attack the flank. You have the Spur in an assignment conflict!

I agree with running a lot of Rocket. They have 6 defenders from tackle-to-tackle, which means they have 2/3 players defending the perimeter. We liked running Rocket to Endover... TE reaches on Spur, PSHB blocks outside stacked LB, and SE on corner. Draw it up. They have to adjust to this formation or else the edge is soft.

We also like to attack the Spurs with Power and Down. Most Spurs are safety types. Most teams don't have 2 Spurs that can line up over a TE and become BDCD players. Find a way to get the weaker Spur to line up over a TE and kick him out. Double Tight Power or Down "Check With Me" is one way to pick on the weaker Spur. Hope that made sense.
