Thread: Getting The Wing Back More Involved

  1. Default Getting The Wing Back More Involved

    Hello all,

I am looking for more ways to get the wing back the football. Right now we run the down counter the xx and the jet sweep from our wing gun. Then we also throw the down pass. What other plays do any of your un to get the wing back more involved? Both of our wings are good runners, with good speed. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Default wb

WB can run the belly sweep.

Run the waggle pullup and hit the WB on a fade while the TE runs a post.

    Coach,
in the past, I've run Down Option "W" which is down option to the wing. I did this when the HB wasn't in the picture (due to motion or unusual alignment).
You could run many of your traditional plays to the weak side. Bucksweep Weak would be one where the WB would get the ball. Lead sweep would end up being a double lead. The way I've run waggle shovel got the wing an opportunity to get the ball. You have lots of options, you just need to think outside the box a bit.
    Good luck,

Here are some wingback runs and passes:
    Belly Sweep
    Rocket/Jet
    WB Counters
    Jet lag
    Counter Criss Cross
    A/B Slip screens
    Sally
Go to Red Stab/Blue Slam sets and throw hitches/curls/mics/Darts etc.
**Stab Tells the B back to spread out. (StaB)
**Slam tells the A back to spread out.
Stay in Cowboy formation and run 4 verticals (especially vs. a 1 safety).
    Hope this helps

    Final Note:
We sometimes move the WB to the FB and run base and other FB runs to get them touches as well.

I have run the traditional 129 and 921 bucksweep with success. I also run the 139 and 939 which helps with 134 and 936 Counter.

We have ran Belly to the Wing, Send him in motion and he follows the FB and the HB, Also Ran Bucksweep to him.. Out of Wing Right.. We fake sweep right and hand off to the wing running sweep left. pretty good little misdirection play.

Bubble screen from a Trips or motion across from RED/BLUE into trips...just as good as Rocket

If these have been mentioned sorry - but Sweep to split end /DB and Shovel are ways we get our wing back more touches.

Another thing we like to do is put our wing in the slot weak - he is a good player as well. We will then run belly if the team walks out, but if they don't cover him we will throw bubble to our wing back - defense can't have it both ways.
